KNIGHT WOMEN BEAT CABRILLO FOR FIRST WIN

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's basketball team beat Cabrillo College to wrap up the Jocelyn Mancebo Classic at San Joaquin Delta.

In the tournament, the Knights lost to Sequoias 76-61 and Laney 80-47 before topping Cabrillo 85-48.

Sequoias 76, Shasta 61
The Knights trailed 51-30 at half and never caught up. Shasta shot 3 of 15 from 3-point range and 8 of 16 from the free throw line. Graceyn Harlan scored 14 points off the bench to lead the Knights in scoring while Gigi Velasquez scored 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Emma Gaddy, Bailey Matos and Ryleigh Hart scored nine points apiece.

Laney 80, Shasta 47
Shasta was outscored 27-9 in the opening period and Laney won the third quarter 27-10 to pull away from the Knights. Shasta shot 2 of 13 in the game and 27 percent from the floor. Hart's 12 points paced Shasta and she added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Velasquez had eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds, Harlan scored 10 points off the bench and Creedence Shaver totaled 10 rebounds.

Shasta 85, Cabrillo 48
The Knights outscored Cabrillo 42-19 in the middle quarters to pick up their first win of the season. Shasta shot 41 percent from the floor and made eight 3-pointers. Four of the five starters scored in double figures with Hart leading the way with 21 points to go with nine rebounds. Shaver turned in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Gaddy scored 16 points and added four steals. Velasquez scored 10 points and Harlan chipped in 12 points and five boards off the bench.
