KNIGHTS GO 2-2 DURING OPENING WEEK

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College women's basketball team lost its first game of the season before winning two out of three at the San Joaquin Delta College Tournament over the weekend.

Shasta fell to Folsom Lake 66-48 at home. On Friday, the Knights fell to San Joaquin Delta 66-47 to open the tournament but rallied to beat Merced 59-57 and fellow Golden Valley Conference foe Feather River College 45-42 to finish the season-opening week 2-2.

Folsom Lake 66, Shasta 48
Shasta trailed 24-8 after the opening period and couldn't catch up. The Knights shot 33 percent from the field (18 of 55) and were outrebounded 45-28. Kaleia Mizuta led Shasta in scoring with 13 points, Lexi Robbins scored 10 points and Amber Wallace had eight points, five assists and four blocks.

Delta 66, Shasta 47
The Knights trailed 32-16 at half but kept pace the rest of the way. Wallace scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and three steals, Robbins scored 12 points and Isabela Padilla scored nine points and had seven rebounds. Shasta shot 22 percent from the field, including 16 percent (5 of 31) from 3-point range.

Shasta 59, Merced 57
The Knights led 32-30 at half and held on to beat Merced. Robbins contributed 17 points off the bench to lead the Knights, who had 19 steals as a team in the game. Padilla scored eight points, and Wallace scored seven points to go with seven boards. Mizuta scored 12 points, grabbed six boards, grabbed five steals and dished five assists and Creedence Shaver hauled in eight rebounds in the win.

Shasta 45, Feather River 42
The Knights opened with a 16-4 advantage after the first quarter and was ahead 33-21 entering the final period. Padilla paced Shasta with 12 points and eight rebounds, Wallace contributed eight points and 10 rebounds and Shaver scored eight points.

Shasta (2-2) has a pair of games this week at Yuba College on Tuesday and hosting American River College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
