MORPHEW, MACLAUREN CAPTURE CVC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

MERCED, Calif. – The Shasta College swim team had the top two high-point winners for both men and women at the CVC Conference Championship Meet on Friday at Merced College.

For the women, Kyndall Morphew totaled a meet-high 73 points, winning three of her four events: the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 05.07 seconds, the 100 Individual Medley (1:07.39) and the 50 back (31.11). She was also sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:00.86). Aida Kowalski scored 69 points to finish second, winning the 200 free (2:07.30), finishing second in both the 100 back (1:05.42) and the 50 free (27.10) and fourth in the 100 free (59.88).

Bradley MacLauren was the high-point winner for the men with 68 points, taking second in all four of his events: 200 IM (2:16.61), 100 breaststroke (1:01.80), 50 breast (27.76) and 50 free (22.95). Shasta's Carson Pesce was second with 67 points, capturing the conference championship in the 50 back (28.69) while finishing second in the 100 back (1:01.13), 100 IM (59.70) and sixth in the 100 free (53.33).

The Shasta women took third overall with 470 points behind Sequoias (591 points) and Merced (556 points). For the men, the Knights were fourth with 265 points, following Sequoias (762 points), Merced (338) and Clovis (273), respectively.

WOMEN

Adessa Berglund was 12th overall with 56 points. She was fourth in both the 100 breast (1:22.92) and 50 butterfly (32.51), fifth in the 200 IM (2:38.59) and seventh in the 200 free (2:24.93).

M'Kenzie Drill was 10th overall with 59 points. She was second in the 50 back (33.48), fourth in the 500 free (6:40.28), fifth in the 100 back (1:09.31) and sixth in the 50 free (29.43).

Ashlee Duckworth was 20th with 46 points. She won the 1-meter diving with 194.47 points and 3-meter diving with 174.07 points. She was also 13th in the 50 free (33.90) and 15th in the 100 free (1:15.30).

Madison Gama was sixth in the 100 fly (1:20.61), eighth in the 50 fly (36.05), 11th in the 50 free (33.15) and 12th in the 100 free (1:12.78).

Amalia Shelton was seventh in both the 100 fly (1:21.93) and the 50 fly (34.86), ninth in the 50 free (31.38) and 11th in the 100 free (1:12.35).

Emma Wood was fifth in the 50 back (38.38), 10th in both the 100 back (1:24.98) and 50 free (33.11) and 14th in the 100 free (1:15.10).

MEN

Ryder Yannello was ninth with 56 points, taking third in the 200 free (2:08.80), fourth in the 100 IM (1:05.04) and 200 IM (2:21.33) and eighth in the 100 breast (1:16.91).

Joshua Palmer finished with 43 points, taking sixth in the 50 breast (38.06), seventh in the 500 free (6:22.93) and the 50 fly (29.72) and 11th in the 100 free (59.78).
