SHASTA BEATS BUTTE FOR FIRST WIN

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team lost a pair of doubleheaders on the week, falling 11-0, 8-0 to San Mateo and 8-7, 12-11 at West Hills Coalinga before earning its first win of the season with a doubleheader split against Butte College, winning 9-8 and losing 8-0.

San Mateo 11, Shasta 0 (5)
Shasta gave up six runs in the opening frame and managed one hit in the game. Cora Peterson gave up eight earned runs on 13 hits in the shortened complete game loss. Macey Bunn had the lone hit for the Knights while Morgan Bourke drew two walks.

San Mateo 8, Shasta 0 (5)
The Knights surrendered four runs in the second were no-hit in the game. Peterson took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in two innings. Joci Bertain gave up three runs on five hits in two innings of relief. Kiley Wendt, Callie Kingsbury and Raya Vaughn each drew a walk.

West Hills 8, Shasta 7
The Knights trailed 6-0 after the first two innings but their late game comeback fell short after seven runs in the final three frames. Peterson allowed four unearned runs on two hits in one inning pitched and Bertain gave up three runs on five hits in five innings. Kingsbury was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Bunn was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run and Savannah Cruz had a double.

West Hills 12, Shasta 11
Shasta scored eight runs in the third but allowed 10 runs across the fifth and sixth innings. West Hills won it on a walk-off groundout. Bourke allowed five earned runs on nine hits in five innings but Bertain took the loss after giving up six runs – two earned – on four hits in 1.2 innings of relief. Kingsbury was 2 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs, Bunn was 2 for 5 with an RBI and two runs and Wendt was 1 for 3 with two runs.

Shasta 9, Butte 8
A two-run single from Kira Montgomery highlighted a six-run sixth for the Knights to help them pick up their first win of the season. Bertain allowed two earned runs on four hits in five innings to earn the win. Montgomery was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run, Bourke had a double and scored a run, Cruz was 2 for 4 with a double and a run, and Kingsbury was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Butte 8, Shasta 0 (5)
Peterson was the losing pitcher to fall to 0-8 on the season. She allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings. Vaughn and Peterson each had a single for the only two hits from the Knights.
