EUREKA, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team won a three-game road Golden Valley Conference series over College of the Redwoods last week to win the season series.
The Knights won 4-0 on Friday, and split a doubleheader Saturday with a 3-1 loss and an 8-3 victory. Shasta won four of the five meetings on the year to improve to 11-12 in GVC play and 16-22 overall.
Jakob Weiser led the Knights at the plate with seven hits across the three games while starter pitchers Kolby Button and Anthony Becerra both picked up victories on the mound.
Shasta 4, Redwoods 0
Button struck out five batters, walked two and allowed three hits across six scoreless frames. Max Holtzclaw got the save, giving up four hits in three scoreless innings of relief. Weiser was 4 for 5 with a run and Hunter Rasica was the other Knight with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Daniel Duarte, Easton Waterman and Jerred Bloom each had a hit and scored a run.
Redwoods 3, Shasta 1
The Knights had three extra base hits in the game with two doubles from Duarte and another from Waterman. Despite out-hitting Redwoods in the game 7-6, Shasta fell behind 3-0 and couldn't rally. Sam Wells took the loss for the Knights after fanning two, walking four and allowing one run on three hits in five innings. Weiser drove in the lone Shasta run in the eighth.
Shasta 8, Redwoods 3
The Knights didn't waste any time to jump on Corsairs starter Kevin O'Quinn, tagging him for three runs in the opening frame on Weiser's three-run home run. Waterman finished off the scoring in the eighth with a three-run homer. Weiser was 2 for 5, Waterman was 2 for 4 with two runs, Nolan Kenny was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Bloom was 2 for 4 with a run, Eric Spencer was 2 for 4 with a run, and Brandon Anderson and Shawn Florence each had a double.
Becerra struck out three, walked two and gave up three runs on three hits in 5.2 innings to earn the victory for Shasta. Wyatt Haydon struck out three batters in 1.1 scoreless innings and Holtzclaw finished things off with two strikeouts in the final two frames.
