KNIGHTS WIN FINAL HOME GAME OF SEASON

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team won their final home game of the season, beating College of the Siskiyous 9-8 on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader. The Knights lost the earlier game 12-4 in six innings.

On the week, Shasta won a nonconference road doubleheader against Chabot College 16-2 and 17-8 before losing a home doubleheader to Feather River 8-1 and 18-4 in five innings. Below is a recap of each of the games during last week's action:

Shasta 16, Chabot 2 (5)
The Knights exploded for 10 runs in the second inning, highlighted by two-run doubles from both Shelbe Cappello and Autumn Campbell. Madeline Nightingale was 3 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and three runs, Whitney Carnes was 3 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, Campebll was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run, Cappello was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs, McKenzy Fernandes was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs and Savannah Cruz was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs. Carnes got the win in the circle, striking out six, walking one and allowed two unearned runs on five hits.

Shasta 17, Chabot 8 (6)
The Knights scored 10 runs in the final two innings to win by mercy-rule in back-to-back games. Autumn Giannini was 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs, Campbell was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs, Caitlin France was 2 for 2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, Nightingale was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, four RBIs and three runs, Kaylie McDaniel was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run and Khloe Forrister was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs. McDaniel earned the win with seven strikeouts, eight runs allowed on 17 hits in six innings.

Feather River 8, Shasta 1
Carnes doubled in Nightingale in the seventh inning for the Knights only run. Shasta had four hits in the game, led by Campbell, who was 2 for 3. Carnes and Nightingale each had a single. Carnes took the loss, giving up 5 earned runs on 10 hits.

Feather River 18, Shasta 4 (5)
Shasta committed eight errors in the game and collected three hits. Jessica Boyes was 1 for 1 with a double and two RBIs, Fernandes was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and a run and Campbell was 1 for 2 with a run. McDaniel gave up 11 earned runs on 11 hits in three innings to take the loss.

Siskiyous 12, Shasta 4 (6)
The Knights committed seven errors in the loss, which led to Carnes giving up 12 runs – six earned – on 11 hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Nightingale was 2 for 4 with a double, Forrister was 2 for 3 with a run, McDaniel was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Campbell scored twice.

Shasta 9, Siskiyous 8
Forrister singled in Campbell in the bottom of the sixth for the go-ahead run in the final home game. Giannini was 3 for 5 with a triple, an RBI and two runs, Carnes was 3 for 4 with a double and a run, Campbell was 3 for 4 with two runs and Shelbe Cappello was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run. McDaniel gave up eight runs on 11 hits, struck out two and walked two to earn the win.

Shasta has six road games remaining, playing a doubleheader at Lassen on Tuesday.
