SHASTA SPLITS WITH MENDOCINO AT HOME

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team beat Mendocino 12-1 in five innings and lost 3-0 in the nightcap at home in a doubleheader makeup from Feb. 19.

The Knights scored nine runs in the opening frame highlighted by Autumn Giannini's three-run double. McKenzy Fernandes, Whitney Carnes, Autumn Campbell, Kaylie McDaniel and Shelbe Cappello each drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI in the first inning. Shasta drew 10 walks in the game and managed five hits as Giannini was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs, Savannah Cruz was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Fernandes was 1 for 2 with two runs. Carnes struck out nine and walked three while giving up one unearned run no three hits for the complete game win.

Mendocino 3, Shasta 0
Mendocino split up their runs, plating one in the second, fourth an sixth innings to hang on for the win. Cruz, Fernandes, Campbell and McDaniel each had a hit and Campbell stole a base. McDaniel struck out 10, walked none and gave up three runs on four hits in the complete game loss.

Shasta (4-7) begins Golden Valley Conference play on March 18 with a doubleheader at Feather River College followed by a doubleheader at College of the Siskiyous the following day.
