SHASTA SWEPT BY SOLANO, NO. 9 FOLSOM LAKE

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team was swept in doubleheaders by Solano 4-0 and 7-6 n Thursday and lost to No. 9 Folsom Lake at home 10-1 and 14-0.

The four losses extend Shasta's skid to five games after starting 3-1 on the year.

Solano 4, Shasta 0
Both teams managed two hits and committed three errors but Solano scored three times in the bottom of the fifth on a pop fly error, followed by an RBI single and bases loaded walk. Savannah Cruz and Autumn Giannini each had a hit for the Knights. Whitney Carnes walked seven, struck out three and allowed one earned run on two hits in the complete game loss.

Solano 7, Shasta 6
Solano jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings but Shasta made it interesting by rallying with a three-run seventh as Kaylie McDaniel hit an RBI single, Madeline Nightingale scored on an error and Cruz drew a bases loaded walk to score Jessica Boyes. But the Knights couldn't force extra innings. Shelbe Cappello was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Cruz had a double and scored a run, Nightingale was 2 for 3 with two runs, Caitlin France was 2 for 3 and Carnes dove in two runs. McDaniel took the complete game loss, giving up seven runs on 12 hits while walking one and fanning two batters.

#9 Folsom Lake 10, Shasta 1 (6)
The Knights managed three hits from three different players as Cappello, Giannini and McKenzy Fernandes each had a single. Gianinni also recorded an RBI. Carnes took the loss, giving up 10 runs – six earned – on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

#9 Folsom Lake 14, Shasta 0 (5)
The Knights were held to two hits – a double from Cruz and a single by Carnes. McDaniel gave up 13 earned runs on 21 hits in the complete game loss.
