REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team swept Golden Valley Conference road doubleheaders against College of the Redwoods and Lassen College last week to improve their winning streak to six games.
Shasta (8-2 GVC, 14-10) outscored opponents 32-3 in the four games. Sophomore Destinee Baird was 12 for 16 with four extra base hits and five RBIs on the week to lead the way while Tara George was 9 for 15. Carli Lewis and Reilly Rupert each picked up two wins in the circle.
Shasta 8, Redwoods 0 (6)
Rupert was the winning pitcher, striking out three and allowing three hits in a six-inning shutout. She was also 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. George was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Baird was 2 for 4 with a run, Erica Parent was 1 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, Marissa Hopkins was 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs and Lindsey Beck had a pair of singles.
Shasta 5, Redwoods 1
Baird led the way offensively, going 4 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, George was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs, Rupert had a double and scored and Parent hit a double. Lewis was the winning pitcher, striking out seven, walking none and allowing one run on eight hits.
Shasta 10, Lassen 0 (5)
Rupert limited the Cougars to four hits in the game, all singles. She struck out six, walked one and got the shortened shutout win. She was also 1 for 3 with a run, Baird was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Beck was 3 for 4, Parent was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs, and Sophia Valdez was 1 for 2 with two runs.
Shasta 9, Lassen 2
The Knights trailed 2-1 after the second inning but blew the game open with a four-run fifth inning and added three more in the seventh to complete the sweep. Lewis fanned eight, walked none and allowed two runs on five hits to pick up a complete-game win. Baird was 4 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI, Beck was 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs, Hopkins was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and two runs, and George was 2 for 4 with two runs.
