KNIGHTS CLOBBER FOUR HOMERS IN SWEEP OF LASSEN COLLEGE

 

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team swept visiting Lassen College Sunday in the Golden Valley Conference opener, winning 5-1 and 8-0 in five innings.

The Knights hit four home runs across the two games with sophomore Destinee Baird recording her first round-tripper of the year in the opener and then Erica Parent, Dorothy Gravstadt and Chloe Luna each hit one in the nightcap.

In the first game Reilly Rupert struck out five and allowed one earned run on three hits to earn the complete game win. Baird's homer came in the first inning with a two-run shot, scoring Marissa Hopkins. Shasta scored once in the second on Hopkins' RBI single and twice in the fourth with Baird's RBI single finishing the scoring.

Baird was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run, Hopkins was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, Reese Bertain was 1 for 3 with a run and Kayla Gaw was 1 for 2 with a run.

In the second game, Shasta College's Carli Lewis held Lassen to three hits, striking out four and walking two in a complete game shutout. The Knights scored five in the bottom of the first with Parent leading off with a solo home run. Two batters later, Gravstadt clobbered a two-run homer and Lewis and Alyssa Kosta each drove in a run. Luna hit a two-run homer in the second and Parent singled in Kosta in the third.

Parent and Gravstadt were both 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run, Luna was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs, Sophia Valdez was 1 for 2 with two runs and Lewis was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Shasta College's Friday home doubleheader against Redwoods was postponed due to weather and the Knights host Feather River College Friday at noon and 2 p.m.
