SHASTA OFFENSE ROLLING INTO GVC PLAY

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team opened up Golden Valley Conference play by splitting a road doubleheader against College of the Siskiyous over the weekend, winning 14-3 in five innings and losing the nightcap 13-11.

Two days before, Shasta swept Cabrillo College 9-1 and 9-7 in a doubleheader, scoring 43 runs across four games.

The Knights (10-6, 1-1 GVC) were led by sophomore Haylee Sobrero and freshman Destinee Baird at the plate. Sobrero was 9 for 13 across the four games with two home runs and eight RBIs while Baird was 9 for 15 with a home run and seven RBIs. Freshman Reilly Rupert was the winning pitcher in all three of Shasta's wins, allowing one earned run in 13 innings and striking out 20 in those three contests.

Shasta 14, Siskiyous 3 – 5 innings

The Knights racked up 17 hits total and scored five runs in each in the second and third innings. Alison Lee was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs, Erica Parent was 2 for 3 with a run, Sobrero had a double and two RBIs, Baird was 3 for 4 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs; Marissa Hopkins has a pair of doubles and three RBIs; Kayla Gaw was 2 for 2 with a triple and two runs, and Tara George was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Rupert dominant in the shortened complete-game. She allowed three unearned runs on four hits, struck out seven and walked one.

Siskiyous 13, Shasta 11

The two teams combined for 30 hits in the game. George took the loss for Shasta, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings.

Sobrero was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Baird was 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs, Lee was 4 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Parent was 2 for 5 with a triple and three runs.

Shasta 9, Cabrillo 1 – 5 innings

Rupert struck out nine, walked two and gave up one earned run on three hits in five innings for the victory on March 18.

The Knights scored three runs in first, third and fifth innings. Hopkins was 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, George was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a run, Sobrero was 2 for 2 with two runs, Baird was 2 for 3 with two runs, and Paige Mitchell had a double and scored twice.

Shasta 9, Cabrillo 7

The Knights rallied from behind in two separate innings and to complete the nonconference sweep. Rupert pitched three shutout innings and struck out four to earn the victory in the circle.

Shasta totaled 18 hits with seven players recording multi-hit games. Sobrero was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs; Baird, Hopkins and Lee each had two hits; Parent was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs; Erica Holland was 2 for 5 with two RBIs; and Mitchell was 3 for 5 with an RBI.
