SHASTA COLLEGE SOFTBALL SWEEPS AMERICAN RIVER

REDDING, Calif. – The Knights turned in a successful week, picking up three wins in four contests. After falling to Sierra College 2-1, Shasta College beat Yuba College 9-0 in six innings and swept American River College 5-4 and 7-5 in a doubleheader.

In the week's opening game, Shasta's Destinee Baird drove in Paige Mitchell for the Knights' lone run. Tara George was the complete-game losing pitcher, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out two and walking two.

In the mercy-ruled win over Yuba, freshman Reilly Rupert threw a complete-game shutout. She struck out four, walked one, and allowed two hits in six innings. Sophomore Haylee Sobrero was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and four runs scored, Mitchell was 2 for 4 and scored four times, George was 2 for 3, and Kayla Gaw had two RBIs.

Alison Lee was the winning pitcher in the first game against American River. The sophomore gave up four runs in the first inning but was stingy the rest of the way for a complete-game victory. She struck out three, walked one and allowed four runs on seven hits. Sobrero was 1 for 3 with a home run, Baird was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, and George drove in a run.

In the nightcap against ARC, Shasta led 7-0 entering the sixth inning. Rupert, pitching in relief of George (2.1 innings, 1 hit), gave up five runs in the final two frames. She allowed six hits and struck out four in 4.2 innings. Lee was 2 for 4 with two runs and two stolen bases, Mitchell was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run and Baird was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Freshmen Erica Holland and Erica Parent each drove in a run.

Shasta (4-2) hosts Folsom Lake for a doubleheader Thursday and plays a doubleheader at Foothill College on Sunday.
