SHASTA'S AVERY 28TH AT NORCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College freshman Avery Grady finished in 28th in the NorCal Cross Country Regional Championships on his home course at Shasta college Friday.

Avery, fresh off his third-place finish in the Golden Valley Conference championships the previous week, ran the 4-mile course in 22 minutes, 11.7 seconds for an average mile time of 5:33. He was 17th overall among freshman competitors. Avery was the top finisher from the GVC.

Shasta freshman Geoffrey Chavez also competed, finishing in 78th overall out of the field of 113. Chavez finished in 24:24.0 for an average mile of 6:06.

The Knights did not have a competitor in the women's race.

For the men, Santa Rosa's Johnny Vargas won the race in 21:13.2 (average mile of 5:18.3) while Sequoias' Ismael Ramirez and Chabot's Reece Proctor rounded out the top three, respectively.

American River won the team title with 55 points, having four finish in the top 14 overall and the fifth taking 17th. Hartnell (99), Sequoias (102), Clovis (123) and Chabot (130) rounded out the top five, respectively.

For women, Hartnell won the team portion with 19 points with three in the top five and all five in the top 10 overall. Santa Rosa (99), Sierra (101), De Anza (123) and Clovis (135) followed, respectively.

Diablo Valley's Julia Gonzalez won the 3.1-mile race in 19:25.5 for an average mile of 6:16. Hartnell's Monica Ruelas and Daniela Salazar finished second and third.
