KNIGHTS SNAP SKID WITH SWEEP OF SAN FRANCISCO

SALINAS, Calif. – The Shasta College volleyball team split at the Hartnell Classic on Friday, losing to host Hartnell in straight sets 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 before sweeping San Francisco City College 25-22, 26-24, 25-19.

The win over San Francisco ended a nine-match losing streak for the Knights (3-11).

In the loss to Hartnell, the Knights were out-killed 46-20. Freshman outside hitter Emmarae Westphal led the way with six kills and two solo blocks for the Knights while sophomore outside hitter Presley Hamilton followed with five kills. Freshman Sarah Ault dished 14 assists while freshman Brooke Vaughan racked up 18 digs in the loss.

In the win over San Francisco, Shasta totaled 41 kills with both Westphal and Hamilton recorded 14 kills. Sanaii Cooper contributed seven kills and two solo blocks, sophomore Macey Bunn totaled four kills and Ault racked up 36 assists and 10 digs. Vaughan recorded a season-high 31 digs.

Shasta has three matches this week, all at home. The Knights host Sierra College Wednesday and both Ohlone and Folsom Lake on Saturday.

Vaughan ranks fourth in the state in digs with 257 while Hamilton's 153 kills ranks 12th in the state.
