KIRK'S 11 KILLS PACE KNIGHTS IN TWO LOSSES

GILROY – Kaitlyn Kirk registered 11 kills in two matches but the Shasta College volleyball team lost both matches at the Gavilan Classic on Saturday.

The Knights (6-14) were swept by Gavilan 26-24, 25-17, 25-10 in the first match and then lost in four sets to Folsom Lake 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 25-14.

In the loss to Gavilan, Kirk, a sophomore from Enterprise High School in Redding, paced Shasta with six kills. Sophomore Cameron Wallace had four kills and Mariah Castle had three kills. Freshman libero Jenna Hodges was the lone Knight in double figures for digs with 10 and Rachel Duhn had nine digs and four service aces. Grace Lommen and Madisen Trueblood each had seven assists.

Against Folsom Lake, Shasta's Kirk, sophomore Brea Carter and Wallace each had five kills. Wallace added two solo blocks and seven assisted blocks while Carter had four blocking assists. Lommen dished eight assists and had 11 digs while Hodges racked up 20 digs while Duhn had 11 digs and six service aces.

Hodges' 304 digs ranks third in the state behind Alina Fletes of San Diego City (326) and Violet Johnson of Santa Rosa (324).

Shasta College opens Golden Valley Conference play at home against Butte College on Friday at 6 p.m.
