WALLACE, HODGES LEADS SHASTA TO TWO WINS

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College volleyball team won two of its four matches last week, one each at the San Mateo 3-Way Classic and at the Los Medanos Classic.

Both wins came in sweeps, which were the first three-set victories of the year for the Knights, who are 6-12 overall.

Sophomore middle hitter Cameron Wallace nearly reached double-digit kills in every match on the week, totaling 43 in the four matches. Freshman libero Jenna Hodges added 56 digs to put her in third in the state for digs.

San Mateo 3-Way Classic

The Knights lost to host San Mateo in three sets 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 and swept Canada 25-22, 25-14, 25-19.

Wallace was the Knights' kill-leader with 12 against San Mateo and Brea Carter added six kills. Grace Lommen had 12 assists, Madisen Trueblood had 11 assists and Mariah Castle pitched in with three service aces.

Against Canada, Shasta had nearly three players with double-digit kills. Castle led the way with 12, followed by Wallace (10) and Kaitlyn Kirk (9). Lommen dished 12 assists and Trueblood got in the mix with 10 assists. Shasta racked up 16 service aces in the match with four coming from Lommen and three each from Asha Woods and Wallace. Hodges had 15 digs and Woods added 10 digs.

Los Medanos Classic

Shasta lost the opener to Solano in four sets despite taking the first one 19-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-14. Wallace's 12 kills were a team-high while Castle was next on the kill list with five. Lommen registered 17 of the team's 24 assists and joined Hodges with three aces. Hodges also had 13 digs and Castle totaled 11 digs. Wallace also had two solo blocks.

In the second sweep of the week, Shasta totaled 25 kills, nine from Wallace and six from Kirk. Lommen and Trueblood were nearly even in assists with 12 and 10, respectively, while Castle, Lommen, Lodges, Wallace and Rachel Duhn combined for 10 aces. Hodges' 20 kills were a match-high.

Shasta is at the Gavilan Classic on Saturday for its final two non-conference matches before opening up Golden Valley Conference against Butte at home on Oct. 5.
