KNIGHTS WIN ONE OF FOUR AT TWO TOURNAMENTS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College lost three of four matches last week at the Fremont Hills Classic and the De Anza Classic.

Freshman outside hitter Mariah Castle totaled 35 kills on the week and sophomore middle hitter Cameron Wallace contributed 25 kills in the four matches. Freshman libero Jenna Hodges added 58 digs to bring her season total to 218, which ranks third in the state.

Freemont Hills Classic

Shasta College lost the opener to Ohlone College in five sets 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 19-25, 15-13. Shasta totaled 39 kills in the match, getting 10 from Castle, nine from Wallace and six from Rachel Duhn, who added 20 digs. Grace Lommen totaled 18 assists and Hodges had 17 digs.

The Knights beat San Francisco in four sets 25-23, 25-19, 14-25, 25-14, getting double-digit kills from Castle (11) and Wallace (10). Lommen had 21 assists, Madisen Trueblood had 12 assists and Hodges led the way with 22 digs.

De Anza Classic

Shasta College was swept in both matches at the De Anza Classic, losing to Sacramento City 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 and to De Anza 25-17, 25-21, 25-19.

Against Sacramento City, Castle paced Shasta with nine kills while Wallace added six kills. Lommen and Trueblood each had 11 assists, Hodges racked up 13 digs. Castle and Wallace each had three service aces while Duhn and Lommen had two each.

In the loss to De Anza, Shasta only had 12 kills compered to 15 hitting errors in the match. Castle led the way with five kills and Kaitlyn Kirk had four. Trueblood totaled 10 assists and Lommen had eight digs.

Shasta College has four matches this week, playing San Mateo and Canada in the San Mateo Classic and against Solano and Los Medanos at the Los Medanos Classic.
