JOHNSON RECORDS HAT TRICK IN 5-1 WIN OVER REDWOODS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's soccer team beat College of the Redwoods 5-1, tying a season-high in goals and snapping a three-match losing streak.

Gabrielle Johnson recorded a hat trick and scored two of her goals in the first half to help the Knights to a 2-1 halftime advantage. Julissa Espinoza and Madelyn Gossien got in on the scoring action with Gossien's coming via penalty kick in the 90th minute.

Shasta had 10 shots on goal with Johnson taking five of them and the Knights had one shot apiece from Espinoza, Jenna Monahan, Gossien, Olivia Smith and Alexis Highfill. Monahan and Smith each assisted two goals. Emily Porter had two saves on three chances in one half and Bethany Sather didn't record a save while holding Redwoods scoreless in the second half.

Earlier in the week, Shasta lost to Lake Tahoe 8-1. The Knights fell behind 4-0 at half and scored its lone goal on Megan Thompson assisting Espinoza for a goal in the 48th minute. Shasta had five shots on goal with two coming from Johnson and the others from Tiffany Hoodenpyle, Espinoza and Gossien.

Shasta is 2-6-1 in Golden Valley Conference play and 5-9-1 overall and wraps up the season Friday at College of the Siskiyous at noon.
