SHASTA COLLEGE FINISHES THIRD AT SAN MATEO TOURNAMENT

Shasta College finishes third at San Mateo Tournament

Wallace, Wallen lead Knights to two wins

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The Shasta College women's basketball team took third place at the San Mateo Tournament, beating Merritt 84-70, losing to Sequoias 91-58 and beating Reedley 81-79.

The Knights were led by freshman Jenna Wallace, who averaged 24.3 points and 9.3 rebounds in the tournament, and freshman Riley Wallen, who averaged 19.3 points in the three games.

Shasta 84, Merritt 70
The Knights led 44-33 at half and used a 26-point third quarter to pull away. Freshman Jenna Wallace dropped 31 points to go with 13 rebounds for a double-double while Riley Wallen scored 23 points to go with 17 rebounds. Kali Cummings scored 18 points and grabbed three steals in the tournament-opening win.

Sequoias 91, Shasta 58
The Knights trailed 46-30 at half and gave up at least 22 points in every period. Wallace's 17 points and five boards paced Shasta while Cummings scored 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range and Wallen scored 11 points. Gabby Rosales dishes a team-high five assists. Sequoias had five players in double figures, led by Sapphire Jones and Elyssa Brumfield's 14 points apiece.

Shasta 81, Reedley 79
The Knights won the third-place game of the tournament despite being outscored 46-36 in the second half. Shasta sank a season-high 12 3-pointers on 12-of-33 shooting (36 percent). Wallace poured in 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to go with eight assists and Wallen scored 24 points to go with eight boards. Cummings chipped in with 16 points.

Shasta is 10-5 overall and plays in the Gavilan Crossover Tournament on Dec. 28-29.
