SHASTA COLLEGE ROUTS RIVAL BUTTE 76-58

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College women's basketball team kept pace atop the Golden Valley Conference standings with a 76-58 home win over rival Butte on Saturday, avenging its only conference loss of the year.

The Knights jumped out to a 22-7 first quarter lead and cruised the rest of the way behind a defensive-minded squad that forced 27 Roadrunner turnovers. Seven of those were steals by sophomore Mari Fernandez.

Shasta's five starters all scored in double figures, led by Fernandez's 22 points. Sophomore point guard Jordan Martinez scored 14 points, sophomores Keeley Tuggle and Kayla Bonomini each scored 13 points and freshman Justyse Cooper pitched in with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Martinez dished 12 assists for a double-double, her third game with double-digit assists in a game and twice in the past three games.

Shasta shot 10 of 21 (48 percent) from 3-point range in the game and had 21 assists on 31 made shots.

The Knights play at Feather River College on Wednesday before returning home Saturday for sophomore night against Siskiyous at 2 p.m.
