KNIGHTS FINISH SECOND AT SAN MATEO TOURNAMENT

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Shasta College's women's basketball team won two out of three games last weekend at the College of San Mateo Tournament to finish in second place.

The Knights beat Contra Costa 68-37 in the first round, defeated San Mateo 81-53 in the tournament semifinals and lost to San Joaquin Delta (NorCal's No. 10 team) on Sunday.

Sophomore Aubrie Wall was the lone Knight to score in double-digits in every game, though they had at least three players score in double figures in all three games of the tournament.

Shasta (10-6) used a 24-7 third quarter advantage in the third quarter to blow the game open against Contra Costa for the win. Wall scored a game-high 18 points and added five steals, freshman Sheleah Stephens had a double-double with 16 points and 21 rebounds to go with seven blocks, sophomore Julia Hill had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, and sophomore Kilee Hannan scored 10 points.

In the win over tournament host San Mateo, Shasta scored at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters. Wall and Hannan led the way with 15 points apiece, Stephens pitched in with 14 points, six rebounds and six blocks, and freshman Jordan Martinez added 11 points and six assists.

Against San Joaquin Delta in the finals, Hill dropped a season-best 22 points on 11 of 12 shooting from the free throw line. She also added a team-high eight rebounds. Wall scored 12 points and Martinez chipped in with 12 points and a team-best six assists.

Shasta plays Thursday against Gavilan at Cabrillo College.
