REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's and women's each won the Shasta Ice Breaker Saturday.
The Knight men scored 64 points to win. Butte (54) was second, Yuba (50) was third, Redwoods (32) was fourth, Siskiyous (19) was fifth. For the women, Shasta won with 67, followed by Yuba College (60), Siskyous (30), Butte (29) and Redwoods (8).
For the men, the Knights won six individual events and one relay. The 4x100-meter relay team of Marcus Simmons, Karnell Calloway, Cody Beaumont and Chris Rosero was the top placer in 44 seconds.
Beaumont won two events in the 200 (22.75) and the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 1 inch, and was second in the triple jump (43-3).
Rosero won the 100-meter dash in 11.06 seconds and was second in the 200 (22.80). Caleb Tolbertson won the 400 hurdles (1:11.75) and Simmons won the triple jump (46-1).
The Knights had three of the top four finishers in the pole vault with Erik Valdez winning it at 12-0. Patrick Bigalow also had 12 feet for second, and Joseph Williams was fourth (10-0).
Peter Savrides was third in the javelin with a throw of 164-4 and Samuel Grafe was fourth in the 5,000 (18:29.96).
The Shasta women won six total events, including both relays. The 4x100 relay team of Madison Barrigan, Kayla Bickford, Maddison Smedley and Julisa Wold won in 53.56, and the Knights' 4x400 relay team of Bickford, Sabrina Peppel, Natalie Garcia-Gomez and Julie Bradley won in 5:29.90.
For individuals, Wold won the 100 (13.11), Garcia-Gomez won the 400 (1:10.54), Smedley won the pole vault (7-0), and Claire Walton won the shot put (36-5). Walton was also second in the discus (102-6) and fourth in the javelin (67-6).
Bickford was also third in the 100 (13.87) and fourth in the 200 (29.49), while Bradley was third in both the 1,500 (6:47.99) and 5,000 (27:15.15).
In the 400, Deonna Ferreira was third (1:24.51) and Lacey Peddicord was fourth (1:33.58). Peppel was fourth in the 1,500 (7:05.15), Barrigan was third in the long jump (14-6), and Regin Loftin was second in the javelin (69-4.7).
