KNIGHT'S THIRD AT MERCED MEET

MERCED, Calif. – The Shasta College swim team combined for a third place overall finish at the Merced College Last Chance Meet on Friday.

The Knight women were third overall with 379 points, following San Joaquin Delta (662) and Merced College (403), respectively. The Shasta men were fourth with 172 points, following Merced (514), San Joaquin Delta (379) and Modesto (350), respectively.

Shasta's Dana McMurtrey was second overall in points for the women with 50 and Shasta's Bryon Upshaw was fifth among the men with 44 points. The Knights won two events overall with McMurtrey winning one and Angelique Passadakis winning the other.

WOMEN

The Shasta's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Shiree Wasko, McMurtrey, Mirena Guillot and Haley Moebes was second in 4 minutes, 10.29 seconds.

McMurtrey won the 200 backstroke (2:24.32), was second in the 50 free (27.10) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:12.12). Stephanie Parsons was in the top eight in all three of her events, taking fourth in the 100 free (1:02.85), sixth in the 100 back (1:16.02) and eighth in the 200 free (2:15.85). Passadakis won the 3-meter diving event with 108.6 points and was second in 1-meter diving (134.93). Jericho Strege was second in the 200 breast (2:47.07)

Wasko was fourth in the 200 back (2:34.54), eighth in the 100 fly (1:13.58) and earned four points for a 13th place finish in the 200 free (2:18.36). Maite Silva was in the top 10 in all three events, finishing sixth in the 200 back (2:43.69), ninth in the 100 free (1:06.42) and 10th in the 50 free (29.08).

Moebes had two top 10 finishes, taking sixth in the 50 free (28.03) and ninth in the 200 back (2:55.00), Guillot was eighth in the 50 free (28.70) and 11th in both the 100 breaststroke (1:46.35) and 200 breast (3:43.58), Nicole Keane was eighth in the 200 back (2:51.28) and ninth in the 200 breast (3:09.24). Other top finishes from Shasta competitors were Kaitlyn McGowan taking 10th in the 100 breast (1:40.66), Emelia Lindsey taking 10th in the 200 breast (3:18.45), and Andrea Hoheisel taking 12th in the 500 free (8:38.78).

MEN

Upshaw led the way for the Knights in points. He took third in the 400 IM (5:26.80) and fifth in each of the 200 breast (2:59.37) and 100 back (1:12.38). Joaquin Silva was in the top 10 in both of his events, taking second in the 200 back (2:32.74) and 10th in the 500 free (56.19).

Jared Marrs was fourth in the 200 breast (2:41.10), seventh in the 100 fly (1:07.69) and 11th in the 50 free (25.51). Wyatt Baldree finished eighth in the 100 breast (1:21.54), 12th in the 100 free (1:00.12) and 14th in the 50 free (26.09)

Mitchell Palmer earned points in two events, finishing seventh in the 100 breast (1:19.70) and 11th in the 200 free (2:21.61). Christian Hoheisel's best finish was 13th in the 200 free (2:26.18).
