NOVATO, Calif. – The Shasta College men's and women's swim teams earned top finishes at the 13th annual Mariner Invitational at Marin College over the weekend.
The Knights won four events on the day, all of them coming from the women's team.
Shasta College's team of freshman Stephanie Parsons, freshman Abby Griffith, Jericho Strege and freshman Dana McMutrey won the 200-yard Medley Relay in 2 minutes, 0.85 seconds.
Griffith was part of another win, taking the 400 Individual Medley (5:07.66), Strege won the 50 butterfly (29.56) and freshman Angelique Passidakis won the women's 3-meter diving with a score of 112.7 points.
Strege also took second in the 50 breaststroke (35.26) while Griffith was second in both the 50 backstroke (30.69) and 500 freestyle (5:42.67), and Passidakis was second in 1-meter diving (144.55).
Three Knights earned top five finishes in three events. McMurtrey was third in both the 50 breast (35.44) and 500 free (6:01.54), and fourth in the 100 free (59.26). Parsons was second in the 200 fly (2:49.63), third in the 200 free (2:16.04) and fifth in the 100 IM (1:15.75). Sophomore Mirena Guillot was third in the 50 fly (31.61), fourth in the 200 free (2:21.90) and fifth in the 200 fly (3:01.62).
Shasta had four others earn top five finishes in multiple events. Freshman Haley Moebes was second in the 50 fly (30.99) and fourth in the 50 back (32.92), freshman Shiree Wasko was fourth in the 400 IM (5:27.53) and fifth in the 50 breast (37.02), and sophomore Kaitlyn McGowan finished fourth in the 50 fly (32.10) and fifth in the 50 free (30.18).
Other top finishes for the Knights: freshman Suzzette Chavez was third in the 1-meter diving (107.95 points), freshman Maite Silva was fifth in the 200 free (2:24.50), freshman Nicole Keane was seventh in the 100 IM (1:17.09), sophomore Emelia Lindsey was eighth in the 100 IM (1:28.65), and sophomore Andrea Hoheisel was ninth in the 50 free in 34.92 seconds.
MEN
Shasta's team of freshman Wyatt Baldree, freshman Joaquin Silva, sophomore Jared Marrs and freshman Bryon Upshaw was third in the 200 Medley Relay (1:55.43).
Silva earned two other top-three finishes, taking second in the 50 free (24.95) and third in the 100 back (1:08.21). Sophomore Ben Morris was fourth in the 100 back (1:27.60) and Baldree was fifth in the 100 fly (1:04.88).
Marrs' top individual event was the 200 IM, taking sixth (2:28.01), freshman Christian Hoheisel's top event was the 100 IM, taking eighth (1:13.69), freshman Mitchell Palmer was eighth in the 100 breast (1:18.80), and Upshaw finished sixth in both the 100 IM (1:08.95) and 100 free (57.83).
