KNIGHTS LOSE SEASON-OPENING DOUBLEHEADER TO SISKIYOUS

WEED, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team lost its season-opener road doubleheader to College of the Siskiyous Saturday, falling 10-2 in six innings and 6-1 in the second game.

In the opener, the Knights cut the deficit to one run in the third but gave up two in the fourth and the Eagles tallied five runs in the sixth.

Whitney Carnes (0-1) struck out one, walked wo and allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings for the Knights. Shasta's lone hit came from Madeline Nightingale and the Knights collected three walks – one each from Autumn Giannini, Madisen Borek and Nightingale. Calley Rupert and Nightingale each scored.

In the second game, Shasta's Khloe Forrister drove in Nightingale on an RBI triple in the top of the seventh for the Knights' only run. Shelbe Cappello was 2 for 4, Nightingale was 2 for 3 with a and Forrister was 1 for 3. Kaylie McDaniel (0-1) took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in the complete game.

Shasta (0-2) hosts College of the Redwoods on Saturday for a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m. The noon game will be broadcasting by Shasta County Sports. Watch the broadcast here.
