KNIGHTS SWEPT IN GVC DOUBLEHEADERS

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team was swept in a pair of Golden Valley Conference doubleheaders last week by Feather River College and Lassen College.

The Knights lost to the Golden Eagles 6-0 and 12-4 at home on Monday and fell to the Cougars 2-1 and 8-5 in Susanville on Wednesday. Before last week, Shasta (1-5 GVC, 10-10) hadn't lost back-to-back games since Feb. 25 – the only other time Shasta was swept in a doubleheader.

#6 Feather River 6, Shasta 0

The Knights were no-hit by the Golden Eagles' Emily Mitchell, who struck out nine and walked one. Haylee Sobrero drew the lone walk and Reilly Rupert reached base due to being hit by a pitch. Rupert took her first loss of the year in the circle to drop to 5-1. She allowed six earned runs on seven hits and struck out four in the defeat.

#6 Feather River 12, Shasta 4

The Knights got out to a 4-0 start thanks to a three-run home run from Destinee Baird in the first inning and a sacrifice fly from Alison Lee in the second. But the Golden Eagles scored seven in the fourth to blow it open and shut down the Knights the rest of the way.

Sobrero was the only Shasta player with a multi-hit game, going 4 for 4 with a run. It was Baird's fourth home run of the year.

Tara George took the loss for the Knights. She gave up two earned runs in one inning of relief of Lee, who gave up six runs – five earned – on seven hits in three innings.

Lassen 2, Shasta 1

Lassen scored once in each of the first two innings and Shasta's lone run came in the sixth when Sorbero drove in Paige Mitchell. Sorbero was 2 for 3 with a double and triple, Lindsey Beck was 2 for 3 and Mitchell was 1 for 3 with a run. Rupert took the loss despite fanning five batters, walking one and giving up two earned runs on three hits across six innings.

Lassen 8, Shasta 5

The Cougars scored seven runs through the first three innings and the Knights couldn't recover. Lee took the loss, giving up seven runs – six earned – on seven hits in two innings. Maddie Steppat threw the final four innings of relief, striking out two and allowing one run on two hits.

Baird was 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run, Lee was 2 for 4 with a double and a run, Erica Holland was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI and Mitchell and Sorbero each had a hit, drove in a run and scored once.

Shasta plays a doubleheader at Redwoods on Wednesday and hosts College of the Siskiyous for a doubleheader on Friday.
