REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team extended its winning streak to five games with a home sweep of Folsom Lake but followed it up by getting swept in a doubleheader Sunday at Foothill College to split on the week.
The Knights beat the Falcons 13-1 in five innings and 5-3 in the nightcap on Thursday. On Sunday, the Knights fell to the Owls 6-3 and 1-0.
Lindsey Beck had a solid week, going 4 for 10 with a home run and five RBIs while freshman pitcher Reilly Rupert shined in the circle for the Knights, going 1-1 and throwing two complete games.
Shasta 13, Folsom Lake 1 – 6 innings
The Knights scored four runs in each of the first three innings, highlighted by Beck's three-run homer in the first, Alison Lee's RBI triple and Destinee Baird's solo home run in the second, and Baird's RBI double in the third.
Shasta out-hit Folsom Lake 11-2. Baird was 2 for 3, Lee was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs, freshman Tara George was 2 for 3 with a run, Rupert was 2 for 3 with two runs, freshman Baily Sandifer scored twice, and sophomore Haylee Soberero had two RBIs and scored twice.
Rupert struck out five and allowed one earned run on two hits in five innings for the win.
Shasta 5, Folsom Lake 3
Shasta's four-run fifth inning was the difference, which was highlighted by RBI singles from Sobrero and Beck. Sorbero was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run, Beck was 2 for 3 and Lee scored twice. Lee also got the win, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings while striking out three and walking one.
Foothill 6, Shasta 3
The Knights gave up a grand slam in the fifth to snap their winning streak. George got the loss, giving up five runs – three earned – on eight hits in five innings. She struck out seven and walked one.
Freshman Erica Parent was the only Knight with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 3 with a double and a run. Sobrero drove in two runs and scored once, and Beck was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Foothill 1, Shasta 0
The Knights mustered only one hit in the pitcher's duel as Parent singled and Baird was the only other baserunner with a walk. Rupert was credited with the loss as she struck out four, walked one and allowed one earned run on five hits in six innings. She gave up a two-out bases loaded single in the second and the Knights couldn't match it.
Shasta (6-4) doesn't play again until March 10 at San Mateo.
