SHASTA COLLEGE BEATS YUBA 2-1 AT HOME

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season with a 2-1 win at home over Yuba College.

It was the first win for the Knights' program since beating College of the Siskiyous 6-3 on Nov. 3, 2017 with the school not fielding a full team last fall.

Shasta trailed 1-0 after giving up a goal by Donovan Guzman seven minutes into the match. But Miguel Ortiz III and Logan Coots assisted Ivan Saavedra for the equalizer in the 34th minute. Ortiz III scored an unassisted goal in the first two minutes of the second half and held on to win.

The Knights had 13 shots in the game, five of which were on target. Adam Nichols gave up a goal in 45 minutes in the net while Jose Roberto Garcia Padilla had two saves in the other 45 minutes.

Shasta College doesn't play until Sept. 27 when it travels to Feather River College to open up Golden Valley Conference play.
