REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College men's basketball team beat Butte College 78-73 at home Saturday to win its Golden Valley Conference opener.
Shasta (1-0 GVC, 8-10) had its original GVC opener against Lassen postponed earlier in the week but took down its rival.
The Knights outscored the Roadrunners 49-38 in the second half to pull out the victory. Shasta hit nine three pointers and shot 11 of 13 from the free throw line.
Bekdoo Lewis led Shasta in scoring with 18 points and added six rebounds, Samer Khalil scored 14 points to go with eight assists, Derek Gorden chipped in with 12 points and seven boards and Trevahn Foster scored nine points off the bench. Shasta's bench outscored Butte's 38-29 in the game.
Shasta is on the road for its next two contests, at Feather River Saturday before going to College of the Redwoods on Jan. 22.
