SHASTA TAKES SIXTH AT SANTA ROSA TOURNAMENT

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The Shasta College men's basketball team finished in sixth place in the Kris Kringle Tournament at Santa Rosa Junior College last week, losing to No. 28 Los Medanos 104-72, beating University of Antelope Valley JV 59-56 and losing to Feather River 72-69.

Freshman Simmer Singh led the Knights in scoring in the tournament with 41 points (a 13.7 points-per-game average).

Los Medanos 104, Shasta 72
The Knights allowed 55 first-half points to the Mustangs in the 32-point loss despite nailing eight 3-pointers in the game. Sophomore Michael Plunkitt was the lone Shasta starter in double figures with 19 points, dished six assists and grabbed four steals while freshman Austin Larson scored 15 points off the bench. Freshman Simmer Singh scored nine points and grabbed five boards and sophomore Zach Thompson scored eight points.

Shasta 59, Antelope Valley 56
The Knights led 29-21 at half. Singh scored 11 points and had six rebounds, freshman Derek Gorden scored 10 points and added nine rebounds and Thompson scored 10 points and dished four assists. Plunkitt scored eight points, pulled down nine rebounds and sophomore Tanner Bidwell grabbed four boards.

Feather River 72, Shasta 69
The Knights trailed 42-40 at half and couldn't overcome the Golden Valley Conference foe despite shooting 10-of-11 from the free throw line and shooting 38 percent from 3-point land (9-of-24). Four players scored in double figures: Singh (21), Bidwell (12) and Thompson and freshman Adam Shoff each scored 11. Bidwell and Gorden each grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team and Bidwell added three assists.

Shasta is 9-6 overall and hosts Cuesta College Friday at 5:30 p.m.
