KNIGHTS THIRD AT SHASTA INVITATIONAL

 

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College men's basketball team took third place in its own Shasta College Invitational over the weekend.

 

The Knights beat Merritt College 73-67, lost to Foothill 49-47 and beat Cabrillo 57-42.

 

Shasta 73, Merritt 73
The Knights led 36-32 at half and held on to win. Simmer Singh scored 14 points while Derek Gorden added 13 points and seven rebounds and Zach Thompson scored 13 points. Michael Plunkitt contributed nine points, eight boards and five assists and Tanner Bidwell and Brendan Hoag each tallied eight points for Shasta, which shot 51 percent from the floor (28-of-55).

 

Foothill 49, Shasta 47
The Knights were outscored 28-22 in the second half in the tournament semifinal. Thompson scored 10 points and had seven boards and Hoag scored 10 points off the bench. Bidwell scored nine points to go with five rebounds and Plunkitt added three blocks. Shasta shot 2-of-11 from 3-point range (18 percent).

 

Shasta 57, Cabrillo 42                       
The Knights led 35-21 at half and never looked back to finish in third place and earn their second double-digit victory of the year.

 

Shasta College is 7-3 overall and plays Sierra College Friday at the College of the Redwoods and Mendocino on Saturday at the same tournament.
