KNIGHTS BEAT NAPA VALLEY FOR FIRST WIN OF 2019

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team beat Napa Valley 64-57 to pick up its first win of the year on the opening weekend of the 2019 season.

The Knights lost the first game to San Joaquin Delta 74-50 in the Cabrillo Tip-Off before splitting at the tournament with a win over Napa.

In the win over Napa, the Knights trailed 23-20 at half. Zach Thompson dropped a team-high 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting while Tanner Bidwell scored 12 points. Derek Gorden added 10 points off the bench while Michael Plunkitt scored six points, dished five assists and had five steals.

Against San Joaquin Delta, Shasta trailed 41-28 at half and couldn't catch up. The top three scorers for the Knights all came from non-starters with Gorden scoring 12, Simmer Singh adding 11 and Austin Larson pitched in with eight points and six rebounds. Bidwell's six points led the Shasta starters.  Shasta shot 33 percent from the field compared to Delta's 44.6 percent.

Shasta (1-1) plays two games in the Chabot Classic this weekend.
