SHASTA COLLEGE SPLITS IN EUREKA TOURNAMENT

EUREKA, Calif. – The Shasta College men's basketball team split its two games at the Coach Tregs Classic in Eureka over the weekend.

Shasta beat Mendocino 79-74 on Friday and then lost to Southwestern Oregon 83-71 on Saturday.

In the win over Mendocino, the Knights trailed 39-37 at half. Freshman Corey Busta scored 17 points and freshman Zach Thompson scored 16 points while sophomore Tanner Guinn added nine points and Freshman Jordan Chao chipped in with eight points and a team-best five rebounds off the bench. Shasta shot 50 percent from the floor (28 for 56) in the game and had 18 assists to 10 turnovers.

Shasta led 36-35 at half against Southwestern Oregon but couldn't hang on for the win. Guinn's 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting was a team-high while freshman Michael Plunkitt added 10 points and eight assists for the Knights. Thompson contributed eight points and six rebounds while freshman Jalen Evans totaled a team-best eight rebounds in the loss.

The Knights (2-6) play against Contra Costa Friday in the Diablo Valley Tournament.
