KNIGHTS LOSE TWO IN SEASON-OPENING WEEKEND

APTOS – The Knights men's basketball team opened up the season with a pair of losses at the Cabrillo Tournament over the weekend.

Shasta College lost 66-51 to Cabrillo in the opener and fell 70-64 to San Joaquin Delta on Sunday.

In the season-opener, only the Knights' Mike Maasen was in double figures, scoring 11 points off the bench. The Knights shot 8 of 30 from the perimeter but had more assists (18-15) than Cabrillo. Michael Plunkett paced Shasta with seven assists and eight rebounds. Tanner Bidwell scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds and Tanner Guinn and Corey Busta each scored nine points.

Cabrillo had three players in double figures with Trey Whitley scoring 18 points, Avery Edwards with 12 points and Lenorris Mincey scoring 10.

Shasta outscored San Joaquin Delta 40-37 in the second half but couldn't catch the Mustangs despite 15 points off the bench from Zach Thompson, including 3 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc. Ten of the 11 Shasta players to get court time scored in the game with Plunkitt dropping 10 points and adding five assists. Guinn scored eight points, Bidwell added seven points and a team-high five rebounds, and Maasen and Elijah Ramirez each scored six points off the bench.

Shasta (0-2) plays Saturday against Merritt College and Sunday against Chabot College at the Merritt Tournament.
