SHASTA COLLEGE LOSES GVC SERIES TO BUTTE

The Shasta College baseball team won the first game of the Golden Valley Conference series against Butte 6-4 but lost the final three last week, 12-2, 14-3 and 12-4.

THURSDAY

Shasta 6, Butte 4
Keanu Mizuta's two-run single in the bottom of the eighth was the difference. Jay Mendez got the victory, allowing three runs on four hit six innings while walking four and striking out two. Payton Jeffries earned the save, tossing 1.1 hitless innings of relief. Mizuta was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Jaden Gorge was 2 for 4 with two runs, Derek Ray was 1 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, and AJ Davies and Griffin Williams each had a hit and scored a run.

Butte 12, Shasta 2 (7)
Dylan Foster took the loss on the hill, giving up three earned runs on seven hits in three innings. Shasta totaled two hits in the game, Andrew John was 1 for 2 and Ethan Williams was 1 for 2 with a run. Gorge snapped his 11-game hitting streak but scored a run.

SATURDAY

Butte 14, Shasta 3 (7)
Max Nebel was credited with the loss, giving up seven earned runs and walking three on 10 hits in five frames. The Knights had seven hits with Gorge leading the way going 2 for 3 with a double and a run. Ethan Williams had a double while Gary Molina and Andrew John both scored a run.

Butte 12, Shasta 4
Shasta took a three-run lead in the second inning behind a solo home run from Jeffries and a two-run homer from Nicholas Newton. But Butte scored seventh in the bottom of the fifth to separate. Jared Hummell took the loss, giving up five earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. Jeffries was 2 for 3, Newton was 2 for 4, John was 2 for 4 with a run, Molina had an RBI single and Davies scored a run.

Shasta (6-8) hosts Feather River College in a doubleheader on Thursday and plays at Feather River on Saturday.
