KNIGHTS WIN OPENER, SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH REDWOODS

EUREKA, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team won its season-opener 11-4 on the road Saturday against College of the Redwoods but fell in the doubleheader nightcap 12-4.

In the first game, Shasta freshman Dylan Foster (1-0) earned the win, striking out 11 batters and allowing two hits across six scoreless innings. Shasta tied it with a three-run fifth inning and blew the game open with a four-run sixth, highlighted by Max Nebel's two-run single followed by Jaden Gorge's RBI single.

Gorge was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Mason Wood was 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs, Nebel was 3 for 4 with a doble, four RBIs and two runs, and Keanu Mizuta and Shane Taylor each had an RBI double.

In the second game, Shasta struck with a two-run first inning and scored twice in the third but gave up three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Nebel (0-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings while walking three and striking out three. Payton Jeffries and Gorge each allowed three runs in relief.

Gorge was 2 for 4 with two runs, AJ Davies was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Joe Fox was 1 for 3 with a run and a stolen base.

Shasta (1-1) hosts Lassen on Thursday at noon.
