SHASTA DROPS SEASON-OPENING SERIES TO NO.16 COSUMNES RIVER

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team lose a two-game road series to No. 16 Cosumnes River to open the weekend, falling 10-6 on Friday and 6-2 on Saturday.

The Knights racked up six hits and gave up eight hits in both of the contests. Josh Taylor was the lone player to have a multi-hit game in the opener while Payton Jeffries had a pair of hits in Saturday's loss.

The Knights surrendered four runs in the second and five in the fifth to fall behind. Shasta scored five in the final two innings on Taylor's RBI double in the eighth and RBI single in the ninth. Taylor was 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, Jaden Gorge was 1 for 5 with two RBIs, Luke Staton was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run, Cameron Falcon was 1 for 1 with a run and Nick Horsley and Cody Emmons each scored once.

Jordan Akins took the loss, yielding eight runs – five earned – on four hits in 3.2 innings. He struck out three and walked two. Billy Plummer and Brady Munson each struck out a batter and pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

The Knights fell behind 1-0 in the first but tied it up in the fourth on Andrew Durrer's solo home run. But Cosumnes River answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame and Shasta walked in three batters in the fifth. Falcon took the loss, giving up six runs – four earned – on six hits in 4.2 innings while fanning six and walking five. Jeffries threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and Kolby Button struck out one and allowed one hit during his two innings of work. Jeffries was 2 for 4 in the game while Horsley was 1 for 2 with two walks and an RBI and Mason Wood had a hit and scored a run.

Shasta (0-2) plays three games this week at American River College on Thursday and Saturday and playing No. 4 Sierra College on Friday.
