KNIGHTS SWEPT BY BUTTE TO END SEASON

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team ended the season with a pair of Golden Valley Conference losses to Butte College last week, falling 16-9 and 4-0.

The Knights finish the year 5-20 in GVC play and 7-32 overall.

Butte 16, Shasta 9
A bases-clearing triple from Cody Morrison in the first inning helped Shasta jump out to a 4-0 lead, but it wouldn't last long as Butte took a 7-5 lead with a five-run fifth and pulled away with a six-run eighth. Payton Edwards was 4 for 5 with an RBI and two runs, Nolan Kenny was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs, Morrison was 2 for 5 with a double and four RBIs and Jakob Weiser had an RBI double.

Nathan Hansen took the loss, tossing two innings of relief, giving up seven runs – three earned – on four hits to go with two walks and one strikeout. Starter Jack Stemm didn't factor into the decision after striking out four, walking four and allowing two runs on four hits in four frames.

Butte 4, Shasta 0
The Knights were held to one hit in the game, a single to left field by Andrew Durrer in the fifth inning. Shasta's Daniel Duarte and Cody Emmons each drew a walk as the Knights struck out 13 times by Butte's Austin McFarlane, who threw the one-hit shutout. Max Holtzclaw went the distance for Shasta, finishing with five strikeouts, one walk and all four runs were unearned on six hits.
