SHASTA COLLEGE LOSES GVC SERIES TO BUTTE

 

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team was swept in a three-game series by Butte College over the weekend and finished 0-4 on the week.

The Knights lost to Cosumnes River 7-4 on Tuesday before falling 18-4 at Butte on Thursday. Shasta lost 3-2 in 10 innings to start Saturday's doubleheader before dropping the nightcap 14-4.

Shasta drops to 3-9 in Golden Valley Conference play and 5-20 overall. The Knights open a three-game series at Feather River College Friday and Saturday.

Cosumnes River 7, Shasta 4
The Knights gave up six runs across the first two innings and had to play catch up the rest of the way. Nathan Hansen took the loss, giving up four runs – two earned on four hits in one inning while Jordan Akins gave up two runs on three hits in one inning. The rest of the Knights' relievers – Jack Stemm, Colby Milligan, Zac Billingsley and Cameron Falcon combined to give up two hits in seven scoreless frames.

Payton Edwards was 3 for 5 with a double and a run, Daniel Duarte was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI, Mason Wood was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run, and Jakob Weiser was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Butte 18, Shasta 4
Stemm took the loss, giving up 10 earned runs on 11 hits in three innings. Andrew Durrer hit his first home run of the year, a pinch-hit solo shot. Cody Emmons was 2 for 3 with a run as the only Knight with a multi-hit game. Jackson O'Neal was doubled and scored and Cody Morrison doubled and drove in a run.

Butte 3, Shasta 2 (10)
The Roadrunners' Isaiah Morales drove in the game-winning run on a sac fly to left field. Shasta's Max Holtzclaw struck out seven, walked none and surrendered two earned runs on eight hits in nine innings. Falcon took the loss. Butte countered with Austin McFarlane, who got the win, fanning 11 and allowing two runs on five hits in nine innings. Frankie Cleary got the save.

Shasta had five players record one hit apiece with Duarte driving in two runs and Easton Waterman and Morrison were both 1 for 4 with a run while Wood hit a double.

Butte 14, Shasta 4
Butte gave up seven runs in the second inning and never looked back. Shasta's Colby Milligan surrendered seven runs on five hits in 1.1 innings to take the loss. Edwards was 2 for 3 with a run, Weiser hit an RBI double and Wood was 1 for 4 with a run.
