SHASTA COLLEGE WINS GVC SERIES OVER REDWOODS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College won its first Golden Valley Conference series of the season, beating visiting College of the Redwoods twice in three games over the weekend.

The Knights beat the Corsairs 6-5 on Friday and then split Saturday with a 6-2 win and a 9-6 loss.

Earlier in the week, Shasta lost twice to Lassen College 5-0 and 18-8 in a rain makeup.

Shasta 6, Redwoods 5
Mason Wood's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth was the go-ahead run and Cameron Falcon closed the game out to earn the win. Wood was 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Jarryn Wee was 2 for 3 with a run, Jackson O'Neal was 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs, Easton Waterman was 1 for 3 with two walks and a run and Noah Jones drove in a run. Nathan Hansen struck out two, walked five and gave up one earned run on one hit in five innings.

Shasta 6, Redwoods 2
Max Holtzclaw picked up the complete-game win, striking out five, walking two and allowing two runs – none earned – on three hits. Jakob Weiser was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, Payton Edwards was 2 for 4 with a two-run single and a scored once, Wood was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Cody Emmons and Cody Morrison each had a hit and an RBI.

Redwoods 9, Shasta 6
The Knights surrendered six runs in the sixth in the loss. Starter Jack Stemm gave up three unearned runs on seven hits in five innings to get the no decision while Colby Milligan took the loss, allowing six runs – four earned – on two hits and struck out three. Falcon threw two scoreless innings of relief. Shawn Florence was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run, Daniel Duarte was 1 for 5 with two RBIs and Wee and Morrison each had a hit and an RBI.

Lassen 5, Shasta 0
The Knights managed only three hits, one each from Waterman, Weiser and Morrison. Holtzclaw took the loss, fanning seven and walking none in seven innings. He gave up five runs, two earned, on eight hits. Falcon and Hansen each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Lassen 18, Shasta 8 (8)
Shasta gave up six runs in the top of the eighth to lose in eight innings. Stemm took the loss, giving up 10 runs – eight earned – on 10 hits in three innings. Morrison was the only Knight with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with a double and a run. Weiser was 1 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs, Wood was 1 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run and Wee was 1 for 5 with an RBI and a run.
