KNIGHTS EXPLODE FOR 32 RUNS IN DH SWEEP OF AMERICAN RIVER

 

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team exploded for 32 runs in a doubleheader sweep over American River College on Thursday to pick up its first wins of the season.

The Knights won 22-12 and 10-7 before closing the week with a 21-3 loss at Sierra College.

In the opener against American River, Shasta racked up 24 hits with seven players turning in multi-hit performances, led by four hits apiece from Daniel Duarte and Eric Papas. Duarte was 4 for 7 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs and Papas was 4 for 5 with an RBI and three runs.

Easton Waterman was 3 for 5 with a double, four RBIs and three runs; Nolan Kenny was 3 for 4 with a double, five RBIs and three runs, Payton Edwards was 2 for 7 with an RBI and a run, Cody Morrison was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs, Andrew Durrer was 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and four runs, Mason Wood scored three times and Jackson O'Neal doubled in his only at bat.

Zac Billingsley got the win in relief, striking out three, walking three and allowing three unearned runs on two hits in 1.2 innings. Jordan Akins got a four-inning save, striking out five, walking none and allowing one run on two hits.

In the nightcap, Shasta College rallied from a 6-0 deficit with a seven-run fourth. Wood had an RBI single in the inning, Waterman ripped a two-run double, and Kenny also had an RBI single. Waterman finished 2 for 5 with three RBIs, a run and a stolen base, and Papas was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs.

Brooks Horton struck out two, walked three and gave up two unearned runs on one hit in 3.1 innings of relief. Waterman got the save, striking out three and walking two in two innings.

Colby Milligan took the loss against Sierra, giving up seven runs on four hits in three innings. Jakob Weiser was 2 for 4 with a double and a run.

Shasta (2-3) opens a three-game series at Skyline on Thursday.
